Sadly this bball blog has been retired because the age old coach up and left for Alaska!
It was a short lived blog, but a grand ole' time in the Chowchilla chapter.
Farewell one and all who randomly may read this :) - Sanford

Washington Union at home proved to seal our NORTHERN SEQUOIA LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP!
Although, we wanted more of a challenge and let them catch up many times, we pulled off the 44-38 victory.
Roslyn was sidelined with an injury, yet working together all but 2 of our team members scored.
Therese had 18 NICE POINTS! and Kayla and Kirbe had 6 points each.
A great year with great players. How sad for it to be over :(
Final Record: 14-6 Overall, 7-0 in the league.
Way to defend last year's title. Looking for great things in the next few years of Chowchilla Girls' Basketball!
Until November, have a great rest of the year!

Rough elbowey rough!
Yet, refs were consistent sort of.
WE BEAT THEM! 32-28! OH MY!
A good win at Kerman, in Kerman, at a gym place called Kerman who have Lions.
It was back and forth all night and finally with Coach V's spurring I took the "X" press off and we were solid on rebounding.
Controlling the boards, as cliche as it sounds, was the absolute key of a whoaness to tonight's victory.
Roslyn was hopping all over the court, shooting, boarding, getting the ball anywhere. She ended up with 8 points and 11 boards. Almost another double double.
Kayla threw in another solid game with 11 points. All around everybody contributed greatly no matter how small they thought it was.
With some scary passing and volleyballing it around, we really showed great player composure and poise to seal the victory through the end.
A GREAT TEAM VICTORY! 7-0 in the league! WOOOO! One more game! Ahhhhhh!!

A fine afternoon of California sun escorted us into a nice, FCA provided, 6 foot sub and variety of milk products.
Choose: chocolate milk (officially with Hershey's), scrumptious strawberry froth, or regular milky milk. Thanks FCA and Mrs. W! -----Mmmm!
The Coalinga's arrived around 4:45 and tried to warm-up on our side of the gym. How odd.
Our pregame talk was similar to all others with the following game plan:
Box-out, outlet, layup!
"X" press to 23 defense (guards in an "I" formation).
If they're in man: run Split, Motion, High, Low
If they're in zone: run Gold and Gold 2
42-16 Final Score!
6-0 in the Northern Sequoia League
12-6 overall
Some girls named Roslyn and Kayla had 10 points each, and Roslyn added 10 boards. That's called a "double, double" for some of you who may not know. WOO!
Kirbe had 6 steals! Plus, 8 out of 11 players scored. NICE GAME SKINS!
2 games left in the WHOLE SEASON! We're going to Kerman tomorrow, and end at home against Washington Union on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
See you there!

Thursday, Feb. 5, we defeated Dos Palos easily.
We travelled there quickly after taking the long way on 99. Scenic routes always boost the immune systems let's say.
The gym was quite old and putrid smelling. All corners explored by pre, post, half game talks proved so, and that was unfortunate to our noses.
The game went rather slowly, even with a lot of pressing going on.
One glance and wordage from the ref in the 3rd was, "Hey coach....take the press off"
Followed swiftly by a jog by ref style and another glance.
Refs have been quite maddening this year, for some reason. Some imbalance in them or in me, but all in all, annoying.
WE WON! BY A LOT. Statistical details shall be filled in later (or not?)

Friday night, Jan. 30, was a challenge! It was against the Sierra Cheiftains way up through that twisty, winding mountain drive.
It was a good challenge for us though, against a 15-1 team that beat Yosemite already this year. And, we were only down by 5 pts. at half time.
Half-time Score: 17-12 Sierra.
But we soon ran out of steam.
Changing defense into 2-3 was the best thing, and we ended up almost outrebounding them even with the severe feeling point differential.
Several good times down the court we ran many of our plays to perfection, yet we still could not handle their heigth and guard pressure.
Final Score: 41-29. Not bad at all!
I'm proud of the team for not giving up. This entire season, they have yet to give up to any team.
Two freshman led the team in points with Kayla bucketing 8 points, and Therese nabbing 4.
With such a dramatic week of short practices and other whatnots, the team needs a break and they'll get it Monday with no practice!
Dos Palos (away), Coalinga (home), Kerman (away), and Washington Union (home) are all we have left this year!
Current Record: 10-6 Overall, 4-0 in the league!
P.S. My favorite ref was there tonight, it was such a special treat. The one who literally hates the Chowchilla JV Coach ya know?!

TUESDAY NIGHT, Jan.27th, was a fit full of hilarious rage for both teams at Washington Union.
Fortunately for the Chow chicks, the other team fitted more and gave us technicals. We were down by one or two the whole game and it was irritating because they were not good.
They have some tall girls but were very, very slow, and we played to their level.
Half time was a rudeness from coach to team members.
A sprint onto the court and awesome offense running and team work put us back on top. The last quarter sealed our victory with various intense techincal theatrics and embarrassments for the other team.
Hope to beat them by A LOT NEXT GAME with them which is at home Feb. 17, our last game of the year!
Final Score: 41-29 WIN!
Leading scorers were #10 and #15, both sophomores leading each with 9 points.

Chowchilla JV Girls Beat Kerman
Last Friday night, the Redskins JV girls' basketball team netted 39-26 points defeating the Kerman Lions for their third league victory.
Therese was the leading scorer with 9 points, with Roslyn and #22 both scoring 7 points. Nine out of eleven players scored as well.
The girls barely outrebounded Kerman with thirty-four rebounds versus Kerman's twenty-nine. Roslyn and #24 had 7, and 6 boards respectively.
Rebounding combined with tough full and half court defense, gave the Lady Skins many scoring opportunities. Overall the team had nineteen steals with both #10 and Roslyn each getting four.
Currently, the JV girls are 3-0 in the NSL, and 9-5 overall. The ladies will be on the road for a week. So come out next Tuesday night, February 10th, to see the girls in second round league action against the Coalinga Horned Toads.
